House Buying the Easy Way
Not so long ago my girlfriend and I were trying to buy our first house. It should be a wonderful and momentous occasion but having been through the whole process it’s not surprising that it is rated as one of the most stressful things you can do! Apparently a close family bereavement or divorce is worse! Finding our dream home was the easy bit – sorting through the legal ramifications and actually putting ourselves into the position where we purchased was not! Firstly of all, I’m self employed, which brings up a whole host of problems. It’s surprisingly difficult to get a good mortgage if you’re self employed. You have to try and prove your earnings to people, which means looking back through all your books, trying to work out exactly what you do or don’t bring in each year. Secondly, you have an enormous outlay of money prior to the purchase. Solicitors fees are frightening, surveyors want an arm and a leg for them to cast their eye over your new abode, and the day you move in, well don’t expect the removals men to be cheap!
Fortunately for me and my partner, we managed to find a site with some great home loans. This meant that the final jigsaw piece would be that bit easier to solve. After all of our outgoings we weren’t going to be able to afford the extension that we desperately needed, but after securing a loan, this wouldn’t be a problem anymore.
A few years down the line and we are happily living in the same house that almost drove us apart! The extension is done, the repayments are nearly over, and soon we’ll be ready to sell up, and buy another one all over again!
